Over 40: August, 2009
Went to Roller Derby in Eureka again. Good times! Spent a bunch of time working around the house and getting the garden into shape. Went on a three day backpacking trip into the Trinity Alps. Got a sweet sunburn, too. Other than that it was nothing but work. Not too many good photos. Sorry. Kinda in a bit of a funk lately.
Over 40 – May 2009
It was a work month for sure. Too much time in the office. The garden is coming in nicely and we are eating a lot of artichokes. We went down to Humboldt for the three day weekend for roller derby and an awesome BBQ. An acquaintances dog got sick and passed away. That is three friend’s dogs this year alone. Have to admit I got choked up over all of them. Rest in peace, Kenya, Scout and Dogmo. I also cleaned out the refrigerator and found a lost bottle of our wedding wine. That was a total score. I also boxed up every CD I own and put them in the attic. I now have 35,038 items in my iTunes (845 artists and 2538 albums). And we took the canoe down 10 miles of the Umpqua. SO fun!
Over 40: April 2009
Not much happened this month. Putting in a bunch of OT at work. Saw the Seattle Roller Derby in Key Arena which was pretty awesome. I started re-ripping all of my CDs so I can box ’em up and stow them away. And, I shaved. Now I have more to do in the morning before work.
Over 40 – March 2009
This was a month where I managed to get sick. And my cruddy mysterious ankle injury came back. Totally sucked rocks. We did go out to Frozen Dead Guy Days in Nederland Colorado which was a good time. I made a new layout for the blog too. Other than that it was work work work.
Over 40 – February 2009
February. A short month. I spent most of it at work, on my Birthday Bike and in Eureka/Arcata. I drank out of a glass that said, “Paddy” on it, too, up in Portland. I went and saw the Portland Trail Blazers beat the New York Nicks with a last second shot. Pretty sweet considering the last NBA game I went to was during Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s final game against the Sacramento Kings. (We are talking mid eighties here folks.) I also found some old food in the fridge. Gross.
The big thing that I REALLY did was finally get out my mix CD to my bestest of friends. I put alot of thought, energy and time into it but I enjoy doing it. I think my peeps do too. Hope all y’all that got it are enjoying it!
Over 40 – January 2009
A new year. A new president. Actually, A president because the last one in that office did nothing. Asshole.
Other than that it was a pretty quiet month. The weather was horrible so I didn’t get to ride my new birthday bike very much. We did build a Secret Bar. It is pretty sweet. Finally played a round of disc golf out at Whistlers Bend which is a pretty great course.
Over 40 – December 2008
OMG!!! A whole year of this ‘Over 40’ thang. And now I am 41! Amazing. That was a bunch of fun I must say.
So…lets seee…what happened in December? Well, Christmas/My B-Day was pretty mellow. Did yard work and such. Three trips to the dump even. Got a bit of snow. Went to Arcata for New Years which was really wonderful. (I really miss my friends down there, I really do.) I started a beard thang. Yikes! I worked. I started watching 1) Deadwood, 2) The Wire, 3) Monk, 4) and Mad Men. All very good especially Deadwood and the Wire. I have no TV but DVDs are all I need.
Happy 2009 everyone! I’ll keep shooting if you will keep start commenting!
Over 40 – November, 2008
Ah November. Good times. The best thing that happened all month – actually, all year – was that I voted the Hell out of Barak Obama for President of the U.S. of A. and he freakin’ won. The worst thing that happened was that I discovered that I am now as fat as I have ever been and that I do not feel that good about it. Let us never speak of it again. We went to the Flat Track Roller Derby National Championship in Portland and I proceeded to ruin my voice for an entire week. Everyone thought I had come down with a cold it was so bad. Friendsgiving in Eureka was super special as I knew it would be. (I won at poker! That never happens!) Framed a bunch of posters that had been sitting around. Finally. I cut myself too. No, not while framing said posters. Making biscotti. (Got a bit tipsy. Whoops!). Oh, and I went and hung out with a couple of giraffes. And cheetahs. And Elephants.
Over 40 – October, 2008
October has come and gone and, I must admit, it was pretty pleasant. The best thing I did was to vote the Hell out of Barack Obama for the office of President of the U.S. of A. Pretty freakin’ sweet. (I wonder how he did…) I also went to S.F. to watch my wife run in her very first marathon. I am so proud of her for that. I water sealed my backyard fence, got a sweet Draplin calendar and handed out candy to kids on Halloween.
Over 40 – September 2008
September. Finished a long-awaited trip into the Trinity Alps, went to a wedding in Vermont and foolishly did not take any hiking boots, and spent a lot of time in the office. And home-made pizza. Also went to Portland to see My Morning Jacket and old friends. I also watched more people quit at work. *sigh*
Over 40 – August, 2008
Two backpacking trips this month: One to the great Trinity Alps, one to the mediochre mosquito infested area around Diamond peak. (I gotta say I really miss the backpacking in my home state.) I made up some new business cards from Moo and Karen’s tomatoes have been going ka-razy! Check that pesto too! And peaches from the candy tree! Ya-hoooo!
…and a co-worker quit who shouldn’t have had too. Goddamned shame if you ask me.
Over 40 – July, 2008
Holly crap we went on an Alaskan cruise! Crazy, I know but there ya go. Another trip to Eureka was accomplished as well. Backpacked the Rogue River trail which I would like to refer to as the Poison Oak trail. That shit is the worst.
Over 40 – June, 2008
Portland, mo-fo’s!! Did some house duty as well. I tried to do a push up but it didn’t go so well. Watched “Fight Club” for about the tenth time. I miss something every time so it seems. I also stood in a field and sat where I was specifically told not to.
Over 40 – May, 2008
Painted the bedroom, went to Seattle (where we saw an AWESOME play in the park), exercised my right as a free American citizen and voted and also watched the destruction of the old Co-Op grain elevator. Sapo was involved as well.
Over 40 – April, 2008
Petting real dogs and fake cats this month. A little bit of beach time and much tree climbing. And another broken fucking hard drive!!!!! (Lost my damned honeymoon photos.)
